Veneers

Improve your teeth's aesthetics by giving a brighter, more even smile.

A veneer is a thin facing bonded over the front of a tooth to change its colour, shape or position. Veneers are the quickest route to an even front smile — and because they cover the surface rather than replacing the tooth, far less of your natural tooth is involved than with a crown.

What Veneers Can Fix

  • Teeth that stay dull or grey even after whitening
  • Chipped or worn front teeth
  • Small gaps between the front teeth
  • Teeth that are slightly crooked or out of line
  • Teeth that are small, uneven or an awkward shape
  • White marks or patches in the enamel
  • Old front fillings that no longer match the tooth

Common Questions

Do I have to have my teeth filed down?

It depends. Composite veneers often need little or no enamel removed. Ceramic veneers usually need a thin layer taken off so they sit flush — which can't be undone, so that tooth will always need a veneer or crown from then on.

Should I whiten my teeth first?

Yes, if you're planning to. Veneers don't respond to whitening gel, so we whiten your natural teeth first, let the shade settle, then match the veneers to it.

Veneer or crown?

A veneer covers just the front of a tooth that's basically sound. A crown wraps over the whole tooth and is what you need when the tooth is cracked, root-treated or heavily filled.

Will people be able to tell?

Not if they're done well. We plan the shape and shade with your face and the rest of your teeth in mind, and can show you the proposed result before anything is bonded on.

How do I look after them?

Brush and floss as normal. Avoid biting your nails or opening things with your teeth, and if you grind at night, wear a night guard — that's the fastest way to chip a veneer.
