Common Questions
What age is best for braces?
Braces work at any age. The ideal window for children is 10–14, while the jaw is still growing, but adults get excellent results too — plenty of our patients start in their 30s and 40s.
Do braces hurt?
Mild soreness for a few days after fitting or an adjustment is normal, and over-the-counter pain relief is usually enough. It eases as your teeth get used to moving.
How long will treatment take?
Most cases run 12–24 months, depending on how much movement is needed. We'll give you a realistic estimate at the assessment rather than a number that sounds good.
Braces or aligners?
Aligners are discreet and come out for meals, but they only work while they're in — around 20–22 hours a day. Braces are fixed, so nothing depends on remembering, and they handle complex cases that aligners can't.
Can I eat normally with braces?
Mostly. Hard, sticky and chewy foods are the ones that break brackets — nuts, hard sweets, ice, and biting straight into apples or corn on the cob. Cut things up and you'll be fine.
What happens after the braces come off?
Teeth drift back towards where they started if nothing holds them, so retainers aren't optional. We fit them the same day the braces are removed.
